The Island We've Been Waiting to Share

Sardinia has always been part of the plan, even if we never said so out loud. Alberto has been quietly waiting for the right moment to bring guests to this island since he was a teenager, standing on a beach so clear he thought he was looking at glass, watching the seafloor thirty meters out. That moment has arrived. After a year spent building the same kind of local network that has always defined Cognoscenti Travel in Sicily, winemakers on the Gallura plateau, boat captains who know every cove of the Gulf of Orosei, family-run mountain retreats that outsiders rarely find on their own, we are introducing Sardinia as our second destination.

It is an island of real contrasts. A coastline of impossible blues gives way, almost immediately, to a wild granite and limestone interior that has barely changed in two thousand years. The nuraghi, Bronze Age stone towers built without mortar or written record, are extraordinary and still largely unexplained. The Vermentino and Cannonau are among Italy’s most distinctive wines, and a meal of pane carasau, pecorino sardo and porceddu tastes of nowhere else on earth.

Itineraries ideas
